"Jane"

Jane is Everly's piano.

She was a hand-me-down from a friend.

She is not a child-sized piano, but rather a small one.

She was made around seventy years ago as a household piano, but has a regular sized keyboard.

She is a Gulbransen.

She is rather scratched and mice ate the ends of her keys, but this helps Everly remember which key is which.

She is of a lovely dark brown color.

She has a matching seat, but it is quite broken and two milking chairs look quite cute in front of it.

A ceramic pelican lives atop her.

Jane can often be found open with several ajar music books, being used as a hat rack or a device to entertain small children.

Alcott is Everly's desk.
It used to be her mother's, and then her sister's and today it is very much hers.

It is named Alcott after the Alcott family of Concord.
"Alcott" means "cottage."

And where she doodles.
And chats with faraway friends.

"Copin"

Copin is Everly's accomplice who happens to be a hamster.

His name is pronounced cop (like a policeman) in (like, the opposite of out.) Cop-in. Copin.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Copenhagen.

He was named after a little boy who likes to dig tunnels in this book.
